Pheasant hunting a game farm can bring snide comments about birds with blinders, tame birds and easy hunting. But it is, in my opinion, quite the same as hunting wild birds. Farm birds jump wild and run like mad. There are no gimmies in this game. You cannot simply run a grid and expect to jump your birds and come home with your limit.

When we hunt the bird farm, we start in a central area and make swings that circle and cross our own paths multiple times. Pheasants are wiley and cunning and it might seem one moment they are making a bee line for the river and the next moment they have double backed on you. There is no consistent trail used and they don’t have patterns. As much as possible push them to an opening or the edge of the river. Be prepared to walk far and shoot startled.
